The new Panerai Luminor Sealand Luminor Series – 44mm (PAM00863) special edition watch, pays tribute to the Chinese zodiac tradition that has been inherited for thousands of years in China and welcomes the arrival of the Year of the Rat on January 25, 2020. In 2009, Panerai launched the first special edition watch of the Year of the Ox, thus starting the design tradition of paying tribute to the zodiac each year. This year Panerai congratulates the New Year with Luminor Sealand 44mm watch (PAM00863).
Each zodiac sign represents a year, this is Panerai’s twelfth Luminor Sealand series zodiac watch, and also the completion of the twelve-year cycle of the Chinese zodiac. The Rats are ambitious and talented and can use their own wisdom and savvy judgment to adapt to various occasions and solve the problems in daily life. The new Luminor Sealand watch – 44 mm (PAM00863) is applied with a stainless steel case, vividly engraved the rat on the dial.
Each zodiac watch has an iconic hand-engraved cover that connects to the dial at 12 o’clock. There is a small mirror on the inside of the cover, which is embedded in the 44mm frosted AISI 316L stainless steel cover. This design is full of aesthetic and functional and protects the grey dial.
The dial is printed with Arabic numerals, linear hour markers, and Super-LumiNova ™ luminescent dots.
The cover is carefully polished by an outstanding Italian craftsman using ancient 「sparsello」 carving techniques. The name of the craft is derived from the tools used in sculpting, which resembles a small lancet. After the groove is engraved on the cover, the craftsman will insert the gold wire and hammer it carefully until the groove is completely filled.
The engraving process of each watch can take up to 50 hours on average.
The watch is equipped with a P.9010 self-winding mechanical movement, only 6 mm thick. It is completely developed by the Panerai Neuchatel watch factory and it is equipped with two barrels, a 3-day power reserve, an hour quick-adjustment device, automatic date-change display.
The watch is water-resistant to 10 bar (approximately 100 meters). The semi-matte golden calfskin strap is lined with beige stitching and is packed in a pearwood box. A black rubber strap is also included, as well as a special tool for replacing the watch strap and a screwdriver for removing the watch buckle.
