At 2018 SIHH, Italian well-known watch brand, Officine Panerai left a deep impression on everyone who attended the event for unique, excellent and innovative designs. Panerai launched two Grand Complicated models: L’Astronomo – Luminor 1950 Tourbillon Moon Phases Equation of Time GMT and Lo Scienziato Luminor 1950 Tourbillon GMT Titanio 47MM. The former was introduced, so I introduce the latter model emphatically. With its titanium case 3D-printed using the technique of Direct Metal Laser Sintering, Lo Scienziato Luminor 1950 Tourbillon GMT Titanio 47MM is equipped with skeleton hand-wound mechanical movement, P.2005/T caliber.

There is no doubt that Lo Scienziato Luminor 1950 Tourbillon GMT Titanio is one of masterpieces created by Officine Panerai. 3D-printed titanium watch case used the technique of Direct Metal Laser Sintering which was applied to the Lo Scienziato mechanical model launched in 2016 for the first time. The new generation retains original features, but its exterior look details has been adjusted. Titanium watch case matches with blue hands and inner bezel, elegant and harmonious. Black Calf Ponte Vecchio watch strap with blue contrast stitching echoes the dial with ornate blue, reflecting creative design and distinctive sport style.

The light design for the Lo Scienziato Ref. PAM00767 stands out, and the model features multi functions, including hours, minutes, small seconds, GMT, 24h indicator, power reserve indicator on the back and tourbillon. Through sapphire crystal, tiny indicator in the sub-dial at 9 o’clock shows that the tourbillon is in a working order. The counter at 3 O’clock displays the second time zone. The secret of light texture is precise watch case and P.2005/T caliber.

Titanium Case 3D-printed Using the Technique of Direct Metal Laser Sintering
Lo Scienziato Ref. PAM00767 case model, 47mm, was borrowed from classic model of Luminor 1950 collecion. Titanium has fine resistance to corrosion, 40% lighter than refined steel. To reduce its weight further, Panerai applied new technology to mould watch case so that the watch case not only reaches 100-meter water resistance but has outstanding resistance to tension and distortion. The new technology is called the technique of Direct Metal Laser Sintering. Panerai used titanium powder to mould solid components and parts with the technique of Direct Metal Laser Sintering. The finished products are lighter and have uniform exterior looking.

P.2005/T Caliber
Manufacture skeleton mechanical movement with manual winding, P.2005/T calibre is equipped with more low-density tatanium bridge plate and pallet instead of frequently-used brass parts, so it is 35% lighter than P.2005/S calibre, skeleton mechanical movement. Light weight of Lo Scienziato Luminor 1950 Tourbillon GMT Titanio 47MM PAM00767 comes from skeleton bridge plate, pallet and barrels. Without traditional dial, dial display embodies the movement directly. 6-day power reserve was driven by three barrels, and we can appreciate it through sapphire case back. Thanks for exquisite craftsmanship, delicate working order is visible whether from sapphire crystal or sapphire case back. Different from the traditional tourbillon, its frame is perpendicular to horizontal axis of the balance wheel. The tourbillon rotates a circle every 30 seconds.
